FAQs

FAQs - For Seniors and Community Members

What are you trying to do?

Markham Vaccinates aims to help seniors who are:

  • Unable to use a computer to access the appointment portal: We will take down all relevant information and use the public portal to book appointments on their behalf

  • Need help getting to vaccination clinics by offering drives from our volunteers

Who is involved?

We are a group of community volunteers from local religious organizations in Markham. The founders are Reverend Nicola Skinner of Grace Anglican Church and Ray Lai of TIPS Software Solutions

Why are you doing this?

The Ontario government is asking for community organizations to help prepare seniors to register for vaccinations. We know there will be barriers and difficulties, and we want to provide as much help, from registration to rides, so you can stay safe!

Can you help me register for a vaccine appointment?

Yes! While we don’t know what the appointment system will look like, we are committed to helping all seniors on our list to register for an appointment starting on March 15.

If you are unable to book an appointment, our volunteers will take down your information and book an appointment for you when the appointment system becomes available.

Do you control COVID Vaccine registration list?

No. We are a community grassroots initiative. We are not affiliated with York Region Public Health, the Public Health Ontario, or the Ministry of Health of Ontario

Are you affiliated with Public Health Agencies?

No. Markham Vaccinates is an initiative to organize a centralized list of seniors in the Markham community so that we can prepare for mass registration and support seniors get vaccinated.

We are not affiliated with York Region Public Health, the Public Health Ontario, or the Ministry of Health of Ontario

Can you drive me to my vaccine appointment?

Yes! That’s the plan. If you are not able to get to the vaccine clinic (we don’t know where it would be yet, though), we will coordinate a volunteer to drive you to your appointment to get your vaccinated

If I can drive myself, and I am comfortable using my computer, do I still need to use your service?

No! If you do not need assistance with registration or getting to the vaccination clinic, you do not need help from us. Please stay safe!

FAQs - For Volunteers

Why should I Help?

The Ontario government has issued a call for communities to prepare our seniors for vaccinations. We are answering that call and mobilizing our volunteers to give our seniors all the help they need to register for, and get, the COVID vaccine.

Do I need a special vehicle to drive seniors?

No. You will be asked to wear a mask, and we will also be asking all our seniors to wear masks, during any drives to and from the vaccination clinic.

What can I help with?

We are looking for volunteers to make calls to seniors to verify information, as well as volunteers to drive seniors to vaccination centre when the time comes to for our seniors to get the vaccine

How can I sign up to be a volunteer?

Thanks for your interest in helping our community! You can click the volunteer button at the bottom of our main page.

Is there renumeration?

There is no renumeration for your time. We appreciate any time you can spare to help our seniors get vaccinated.

Who owns the data?

Data being collected is securely stored in a cloud database, of which the data is owned by Grace Anglican Church.

What happens to the data after the pandemic is over?

We will destroy the data when our initiative has come to an end, and when there is no need for our seniors to vaccinate.

We look forward to that time.
